Restructuring Articles for Clarity and Concision
I’m restructuring how the articles on this site are written.
I usually write the way I speak, which some people find pleasant. That said, my love-hate relationship with the Portuguese language sometimes makes my texts hard to follow. I also tend to go on too long when explaining reasons and concepts, which makes the text dull.
As a writing exercise, I’m reviewing my texts. I’m fixing spelling and grammar problems and making the content more direct.
I also want to reinforce a few personal rules: always include code and command examples, describe where they apply, and show why I took a given approach, but without dragging it out. The goal is for the reading to be easy, fast, and to the point. After all, I usually write for myself, to remember how I solved some problem when it comes up again.
I hope that, over time, this approach brings two main benefits: it’ll be easier for people to read my articles, and easier for me to write them.
As a side effect, my articles should get shorter, looking more like an email than a polished article.
We’ll see how this plays out.
